“What if my Internet goes down?!”

Occasionally, some people who are considering PayGo on the cloud ask… “What happens if my internet goes down? I can’t do business!”

We respond with this…”What happens if your computer goes down? Or what happens if your monitor dies.”

Both scenarios involve hardware failing and both require an emergency plan.  We’re confident that getting back up and running in PayGo Webdirect will be MUCH faster than restoring a computer that houses your POS program and data.

The risk of not being able to run your business over the internet is LESS than what you might think.  In fact, it’s been a non-issue for all of our clients since our launch in 2008.Most of the support tickets we have that deal with not being able to run your business are because of the user’s computer going down.

In fact, the risk is higher if you’re running your business locally on your own computer. Why? Consider this:

1. PayGo runs on powerful servers (on Amazon’s Cloud Service) dedicated to ONLY being a software server.  And it’s managed by nerdy folks that know how to do that kind of stuff.  Backups, redundancy and server maintenance are handled by us.

2. If your computer goes down and your software needs to be restored, how long does that take?  Longer than it does to have the internet come back up.

3. Computer issues happen as often, if not more than internet issues and if the internet needs to be fixed, it doesn’t cost anything and it’s usually done faster than a computer guy fixes a computer.

These are just a few things to consider.

Lastly, the internet and its reliability have come a long way in just 5 years and we see it only getting better. We have all of our customers running PayGo Webdirect without an issue.

Simply, the internet is a required tool now, and it has become more and more reliable. However, you can put into place plans to keep your connection strong. There are now many internet options and some clients have gone to point of using 2 internet providers to provide the redundancy they require. Simply consult with a local networking professional to learn the different options that might be available to you.
