Setting Up Different Types of Discounts

Every customer and store is unique, so why should your discounts be any different? PayGo offers three different types of discounts, all of which are designed to quickly and easily get your customers the prices they want, and keep them coming back for more.

Membership Discounts

A Membership discount is a discount program that you can offer to your loyal customers. It’s designed to work with your Customer Relationship Management system (see the Knowledgebase article Using PayGo’s Customer Entry (CRM) for more information on this topic) to assign your customers to an automatic discount with your store.

Setting up a Membership Discount

You can access the Discount Program Setup screen by clicking the Discount & Pricing Programs button on your Menu screen. On that screen, you will see a box titled Discount Program Type, where you will choose the Membership option. Below that box, there is another box titled Membership/Global Discount Rules, where you are able to define what type of discount will be offered. There is a Number box and a drop-down menu for the Method type, with three options:

Percent: This will allow your members to enjoy a certain percentage off of their purchases through your stores.

Off: This will allow your members to receive a discount of a certain dollar amount off of their purchases.

Result: This option will set the final price for your customers’ purchases at a certain dollar amount.

Rule Option: This is a drop-down menu asking you to set up a rule option for the discount you are setting up. What this means is, if your customer is purchasing an item that is already discounted, you are able to set up which discount to apply to that item. You can either Add the discount to the item, Override the existing discount, or Use the existing discount instead of the one you are creating.

Adding a Customer to a Membership Discount

You can easily add a customer to your Membership discount program by going to the customers profile (you can search for customers by clicking the Find Customer button on your Menu screen), clicking the Discount tab in their Customer Entry screen, and selecting the discount you would like them to receive from the list.

If you would like to remove a customer from a Membership discount program, you can do so under the Discount tab in the Customer Entry screen by clicking the Clear button at the top of the discount list. This will clear the customer from all discounts.

Global Discounts

A Global discount is a discount program that can be applied to all of your inventory, and can be added to an invoice from the Sales Screen at any time.

Setting up a Global Discount

You can access the Discount Program Setup screen by clicking the Discount & Pricing Programs button on your Menu screen. On that screen, you will see a box titled Discount Program Type, where you will choose the Global option. Below that box, there is another box titled Membership/Global Discount Rules, where you are able to define what type of discount will be offered. There is a Number box and a drop-down menu for the Method type, with three options:

Percent: This will apply your discount as a percentage off of the items price.

Off: This will apply your discount as a dollar amount off of the original price.

Result: This option will set the final price for the item at a certain dollar amount.

Applying a Global Discount

To apply a Global discount to an invoice, select the items you would like to discount in your Sales Screen by checking the box at the end of each item line.  The Disc button will appear above the item list. Click it, and you will see a pop-up box that contains a list of all available global discounts. Select which discount you would like to apply by clicking on it, and that discount will be applied to your selected items.

Package Discounts

Do you have certain items that you want to offer a discount for if your customer buys in bulk?  Then this discount is right for you! The Package discount allows you to set a discount for customers when they buy a certain amount of a single product.  For instance, if you sell quilting squares that are normally $5 apiece and would like to make a deal that would allow your customers to buy five for $20, then the Package discount will allow you to do so.

Setting up a Package Discount

You can access the Discount Program Setup screen by clicking the Discount & Pricing Programs button on your Menu screen. On that screen, you will see a box titled Discount Program Type, where you will choose the Package option. Below and to the right of that box, there is another box titled Package Discount Rules. In this box, you can define the minimum and maximum quantity your customers would have to buy of the item in order to get the discount, as well as the unit price.

This box also contains a note that reads: “Inventory must be assigned to a package discount rule to be active. This can be set under the Pricing Tab in the Inventory Screen.” What this means is, after this discount has been set up you will be able to apply it to individual items, and it can be accessed under the Pricing tab in the Inventory Screen.
